Motorcycle company files notice of lockout vs 289 union employees all

MANILA, Philippines — A well-known motorcycle manufacturer has filed a notice of lockout against its 289 rank-and-file union workers citing unfair labor practices stemming from an illegal strike and boycott of company activities.

In a notice dated August 4, Kawasaki Motors accused the 289 union workers of violating the “No Strike/No Lockout” clause of the collective bargaining agreement between the union and management in 2022.

Kawasaki said the violation was committed after workers boycotted company-sanctioned activities, particularly its anniversary celebration last July 24, Sportsfest last June 15 and the mandatory overtime to catch up on production on April 30, 2025.

The manufacturer’s counsel Atty. John Bonifacio in a statement explained that boycotting company-sanctioned activities — thereby violating the “No Strike/No Lockout” clause — constituted unfair labor practice on the part of the workers, which was then used as grounds for the filing of notice of lockout.

“We have exhausted all legal means possible to convince union workers to accept our offer and return to work, because they are disrupting operations, but to no avail,” Bonifacio also noted.

Bonifacio said the lockout on union workers could take effect as early as August 26, 2025 after Kawasaki Motors satisfies all the requirements for a valid lockout as stated in the Labor Code.
